Solarwind · last updated 31 October 2026
Solarwind is a game about flying ships between real stars. You can play without an account. This page says what we keep, why, and how to have it removed.
If you play without an account
- Your browser gets a random player ID and a signed token, kept in your browser's local storage. It is not linked to your name, email or device.
- Your game (ships, crew, where you have been) is stored on our servers under that ID, so the game keeps running while you are away.
- Other players see your ship at the stars you visit, under a generated commander name, never your email.
If you sign in
- Email link: we store your email address to send you sign-in links and to recognise your account.
- Google: we receive your name, email address and profile picture address from Google, and keep them with your account. We ask Google for nothing else.
- A session cookie keeps you signed in on that browser.
- Your account is linked to your commander, so you can play the same game on any device.
- Mention emails: when another player mentions you or your ship with @ in a chat, we email you who wrote it, where, and the message, at most once an hour. They are on by default; turn them off in the game's account view or with the link in any of them. Your address is never shown to other players.
Usage statistics
- On play.solarwindgalaxy.com we count visits and how far players get (for example finishing the tutorial, a first jump, a first build), how fast the game loads, and errors, with Google Analytics and PostHog (EU). This tells us where the game is hard to follow or slow.
- On the atlas (solarwindgalaxy.com) we count page views and clicks into the game with PostHog (EU): the page, the site you came from and, for a click, the star. Nothing is stored in your browser and no visit is linked to another.
- Unless you agree, this runs without cookies or anything stored in your browser: each visit is counted on its own and is not linked to you.
- If you answer "Share logs" in the game, both services may store an identifier in your browser, and your visits are linked to your random player ID (never your email or name), so we can see how play develops over time. To withdraw, clear this site's data in your browser; the game asks again.
- We send no game state, email or name to these services, and we use them for no advertising.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data, and we show no ads.
- We do not use your data for anything except running and improving the game and your account.
Where it is kept
The game runs on Cloudflare; accounts are stored in a Neon Postgres database in the EU (Frankfurt). Sign-in and mention emails are sent through Cloudflare's email service. Usage statistics go to Google Analytics and to PostHog (EU cloud). These providers process data only to run these services for us.
Removing your data
Email vhalme@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will delete your account and your game. Without an account, clearing your browser's site data forgets your player ID; the game itself fades away on its own when left untouched.
Changes
If this changes, the date above changes with it. The game is in alpha, and the world may be reset while it grows.
